Once you’ve bought your caravan or motorhome, there’s not much more to get.
Towbar and sockets
For a caravan owner you'll need a towbar for the car and the electrical connection sockets. To find out how to get them fitted, see your local caravan dealer or visit the The Caravan Club Dealer List
Extension mirrors
Extensions to the mirrors on your car allow for the extra width of the caravan. Most caravan dealers have accessory shops, or check out one of the many online suppliers.
Insurance
Most comprehensive car insurance covers third party risks when towing a caravan but you’ll probably want to insure your caravan comprehensively. The insurers may want you to fit wheelclamps and hitch locks.
Anything else?
An Aquaroll to collect water supplies when you’re on site. It's a plastic barrel with a central axle and handle.
Gas supplies
You’ll need a gas cylinder. If you plan year round touring choose propane. It works more efficiently at low temperatures than butane.
Extra space
An awning is useful, attached to the side of your tourer. This has an awning channel built in. Use it as dining space, room for children or visitors to sleep, or somewhere to sit on hot summer nights.
Portable power
You'll need a leisure battery, similar in size and weight to the one in your car.
Stocking up
Stock the kitchen with non-perishable foods such as soup, tinned vegetables, tea bags and so on. You’ll no doubt buy fresh produce when you’re touring.
Spur of the moment touring
If you want to make ‘getting away’ easy, stock up on a second set of cleaning materials, toiletries and clothes.
Take your duvet and pillows from home, or kit out the ’van with sleeping bags, a second duvet set or roll-out combination duvet sleeping bags.

That’s about it. Check your driving licence covers you for the size and weight of your chosen touring outfit, and you’re ready to go touring!
